Harvard University and the Harvard UniversityEmployees Credit Union today (April 15) announced a partnershipthat will make credit union loans available to internationalgraduate and professional students.

This is the second time in two months that theUniversity has secured a new source of funding after major lenderswithdrew from the market for international student loans late lastyear.

In February, Harvard signed an agreement withJPMorgan Chase to provide the University’s approximately 3,300international graduate and professional students access to privateeducation loans without re a co-signer。

In the past, only a handful of lenders providedloans to students from abroad without re them to find a USresident who was willing to co-sign the loan.

When the financial markets began to fall last year,even those lenders declined to provide such loans, castinguncertainty on the plans of anyone from abroad interested inpursuing an advanced degree on a US campus.

The agreement with the credit union expands thepool of available funds and similarly does not require aco-signer.

The credit union and JPMorgan Chase also will offerprivate loans to domestic students enrolled in graduate andprofessional programs at Harvard.
